This week we were again instructed to watch online modules to help create meaningful math for students. I am finding these modules are helping me develop an understanding of the mathematics process to help pass on to my students. This week the focus was on, Ideas vs. Memorization, Drawing and Representing, and Making Sense and Intuition
This week I decided to pay extra attention to a module geared towards Making Sense & Intuition. Dr. Boaler teaches us to first about the math question, and follow up using your intuition with the option to draw your representation out on paper. By using our intuition we can make sense of some of the questions that we are processing such as: Why does that make sense? How does this work? How is that connected?

Students will have more confidence to help them connect their knowlege to other ideas they have already learned. I remember in elementary completing the Minute Math Multiplication Sheets and always going to the questions I had memorized, not understanding why I knew the anwser or how I could figure out the questions I didn't know. This is a misconception I carried with me for years.
By learning new strategies through this course and through my next placement, I will be able to improve not only my students learning, but my own.
